thinks "he was a bit of an idiot".
Important Events:
- Book 1, Pg 89 - "Hufflepuff!"
- Book 2, Pg 73 - Harry, Ron and Hermione were joined at their tray (in
Herbology) by a curly-haired Hufflepuff boy Harry knew by sight, but had never
spoken to.
"Justin Finch-Fletchley," he said brightly, shaking Harry by the hand. "Know who
you are, of course, the famous Harry Potter... and you're Hermione Granger -
always top in everything..." (Hermione beamed as she had her hand shaken, too)
"and Ron Weasley. Wasn't that your flying car?" Ron didn't smile. "That Lockhart's
something, isn't he?" said Justin happily, as they began filling their plant pots
with dragon-dung compost. "Awfully brave chap. Have you read his books? I'd have
died of fear if I'd been cornered in a telephone box by a werewolf, but he stayed
cool and - zap - just fantastic. My name was down for Eton, you know, I
can't tell you how glad I am I came here instead. Of course, mother was slightly
disappointed, but since I made her read Lockhart's books I think she's begun to
see how useful it'll be to have a fully trained wizard in the family..."
- Book 2, Pgs 111-112 - (Harry) went upstairs to meet Ron in the library,
and saw Justin Finch-Fletchley, the Hufflepuff boy from Herbology, coming towards
him. Harry had just opened his mouth to say hello when Justin caught sight of him,
turned abruptly and sped off in the opposite direction.
Harry told Ron about Justin Finch-Fletchley running away from him...
"Dunno why you care, I thought he was a bit of an idiot," said Ron... "All that
rubbish about Lockhart being so great -"
- Book 2, Pg 143 - Duelling Club: Lockhart teamed Neville with Justin
Finch-Fletchley
After the first duel: Both Neville and Justin were lying on the floor, panting...
"Let's have a volunteer pair," said Lockhart. "Longbottom and Finch-Fletchley, how
about you?"
"A bad idea, Professor Lockhart," said Snape. "Longbottom causes devastation with
the simplest spells. We'll be sending what's left of Finch-Fletchley up to the
hospital wing in a matchbox."
- Book 2, Pgs 145-147 - Hissing furiously, (the snake) slithered straight
towards Justin Finch-Fletchley and raised itself again, fangs exposed, poised to
strike.
...Harry tells the snake to leave Justin alone...
(Harry) looked up at Justin, grinning, expecting to see Justin looking relieved,
or puzzled, or even grateful - but certainly not angry and scared.
"What do you think you're playing at?" he shouted, and before Harry could say
anything, Justin had turned and stormed out of the Hall.
"No wonder Justin panicked," said Ron. "you sounded like you were egging the snake
on or something..."
- Book 2, Pg 148 - Harry goes to find Justin to explain what happened as
Herbology is cancelled... thinking that Justin might be using his free lesson to
catch up on some work, (Harry) decided to check the library first.
A group of Hufflepuffs who should have been in Herbology were indeed sitting at
the back of the library, but they didn't seem to be working... "So anyway," a
stout boy was saying, "I told Justin to hide up in our dormitory. I mean to say,
if Potter's marked him down as his next victim, it's best if he keeps a low
profile for a while. Of course, Justin's been waiting for something like this to
happen ever since he let slip to Potter he was Muggle-born. Justin actually
told him he'd been down for Eton. That's not the kind of thing you bandy
about with Slytherin's heir on the loose, is it?"
- Book 2, Pg 151 - (Harry) was halfway down the passage when he tripped
headlong over something lying on the floor... Justin Finch-Fletchley was lying on
the floor, rigid and cold, a look of shock frozen on his face, his eyes staring
blankly at the ceiling...
- Book 2, Pg 249 - Harry didn't know whether the best bit (of the feast)
was Hermione ... or Justin hurrying over from the Hufflepuff table to wring his
hand and apologise endlessly for suspecting him...
- Book 4, Chapter 18 - The Hufflepuffs, who were usually on excellent terms with the Gryffindors, had turned remarkably
cold toward the whole lot of them. One Herbology lesson was enough to demonstrate this. It was plain that the Hufflepuffs felt that
Harry had stolen their champion's glory; a feeling exacerbated, perhaps, by the fact that Hufflepuff House very rarely got any glory,
and that Cedric was one of the few who had ever given them any, having beaten Gryffindor once at Quidditch. Ernie Macmillan and
Justin FinchFletchley, with whom Harry normally got on very well, did not talk to him even though they were repotting Bouncing Bulbs
at the same tray - though they did laugh rather unpleasantly when one of the Bouncing Bulbs wriggled free from Harry's grip and
smacked him hard in the face.
