Begging Bowl Out 11th May 2008, 12:57pm
Mood: hopeful

I've worn glasses since I was 12, I wear contacts when I'm filming, but let's face it. It's a fiddle, constantly sticking your fingers in your eyes isn't very good for them, and we'd all rather just be able to see. Besides my slight astigmatism means I can't actually see very well with my contacts in, I'm wearing them right now and it's actually quite a task to read what I'm writing.

Lulled in by Optical Expresses £395 per eye claims I went for a consultation, the cheapest possible fee for laser correcting my eyesight will be £895 per eye, a total of £1790 for the lot. And that's without their super-duper fix it exactly and don't have a surgeon stick a scalpel in your eye machine which costs about £1500 per eye!

Anyway, I still want it. I want to be able to see without mechanical assistance. I want my eyesight back. Personally I think the government should pay for it, isn't that what the NHS is for? But since they won't even cover my eye tests anymore I look to you, my friends and family. I've seen other people do this for other things, I've contributed to a few of them in my time, but I've never done it myself

If I can raise £1000 ($2000) I will cover the rest of the money myself!

In return you get, well nothing actually, except the knowledge that you are a charitable and lovely person who will undoubtably be rewarded in some karmic fashion by the universe at large. Also if I get really rich and famous at any point I will pay you back, because I am nice that way.

I have two paypal accounts, one that you can't use credit cards to send money to, but that paypal don't steal a percentage from, and one that you can use credit cards with, but that paypal do steal a percentage from. Pick the one that fits you. Or if you see me often or have my address you can give me money directly. I will keep you all updated on the total on here.

I know £1000 sounds like a lot, but don't let that put you off, you don't have to give a lot, if every person I'm friended to on Livejournal (just as an example) were to give me £3 ($6) I would have reached the target!

I have a paypal account (please use this one if possible!)...

I don't have a paypal account and need to use the credit/debit card option...

Rough Cut of Gilda Revisited 8th May 2008, 09:22pm

There's a rough cut of the film I shot the other week up at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=5gQT0PzG64c

The sound has not been levelled or worked on yet and the film has not been graded.

Motorbike Photos 5th May 2008, 10:23pm

This is not my bike, in fact I can't even ride a motorbike. But wouldn't it be awesome if it was and I could. Le sigh. Of course it is very very dangerous and I do not approve of such things.

Got myself into the inside press pit at the premiere. My camera sucks ass though, the flash takes forever to recharge. Took lots of photos of celebs for Rich (who got me the ticket in the first place).

The film was good. You always enjoy stuff more in this kind of situation, but I always like Robert Downey Jnr. On looking back probably not quite as awesome as it felt at the time, but well worth seeing.

New Colour From The Dark Trailer 18th Apr 2008, 02:03pm

Check out this article on Fangoria at http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=6355 and then check out the brand new trailer for Colour From The Dark!

"Zuccon's ambition is to translate Lovecraft's tale (previously loosely adapted as DIE, MONSTER, DIE! and THE CURSE) accurately, and for the first time on film, the alien 'colour' is being treated as a proper entity within the story. Efforts to properly present it led to delays in post-production as Zuccon and the visual FX department, supervised by Massimo Storari, worked toward a satisfying design."

More photos from We Saw Zebras, the short film I was shooting over the last two weekends, are up in my LJ stills gallery.

In other news: with 9 days left in the voting, my friend Alex de Campi's music video for "Jilted" (which I appear in) is sitting in 3rd place in the "Looking for Genius" category of Babelgum, a big online film festival. Please vote and help.

You have to go through kind of a tortuous process downloading & installing the programme - there are so few people voting in the festival (because it does require installing a new type of video player) that if we make a concerted effort we really CAN push this thing in to number 1 and bag the prize which Alex will spend well on paying the cast and crew for Jilted more and putting the rest of the money toward future projects.

Also anyone who COMMENTS on the video gets entered into a draw to go to Cannes film festival and go to lots of premieres.

***************

· Download Babelgum here: http://www.babelgum.com/download

· Enter the Films & Festivals Community (it's the first one on the top left corner when you start Babelgum) and search for my film: Jilted - The Puppini Sisters (dir. Alex de Campi)

· Use the Rate tool to give it your vote – 5 stars please!

Death of a Boy (Heath Ledger)

Things you need to know... 1. I am not a terribly competent guitar player, in a couple of months if my ability to play this song has improved I will re-record it. It should be faster, but I was never going to get it done if I tried to play it faster. 2. This song is not about what happened to Heath Ledger, because I don't know what happened to Heath Ledger. I spent three days on set with him a couple of days before he died and this is my response to what I experienced and how I felt about what happened. The lyrics are... The harlequin cries painted tears And no one thinks to say Is everything okay We all have bills to pay When everyone is watching you You often walk alone Your secrets turn to stone The truth remains unknown I watched a while, I walked a while, I talked a while with you The words we said were few Your thoughts went by unseen A pair of miming clowns You joked a while, you smoked a while You fell down to the ground A fight without a sound While fireworks burst bright above the cobble stones When no one tries to talk to you It's easy to forget Your fears can all be met We all are frightened too I dreamed last night I spoke to you But when I awoke in bed I couldn't think of what you said Your secrets stay unknown Buried under stone You joked a while, you smoked a while You fell down to the ground A fight without a sound As horses raced away upon the cobble stones The harlequin cries painted tears And no one thinks to say Is everything okay I guess you're not okay. This song and performance are copyright to me, Marysia Kay, Jan 2008. You should be able to access an acapella version of this song on my last.fm page at http://www.last.fm/music/Marysia+Kay 25th Jan 2008 #28 - Top Rated (Today) - Music #57 - Most Discussed (Today) - Music http://www.marysia.com/

Hitting People With Sticks

A bit of an experiment. Ronin Traynor choreographed the fight and provided the weapons. I directed the filming and edited it. My friend Eugenia pressed the button on the camera. Unfortunately the original filming for this, when we did all the work on learning the fight and getting it running smoothly, was cancelled due to inconvenient car bombs preventing me from getting to Slough. We weren't able to film it until over two months later after I finished filming Colour From the Dark. With only one afternoon to refresh our memories, I think it suffered greatly as a result.
