This tree of life has the Golden Dawn attribution of the 22 paths and astrological symbols.
The twenty-two Hebrew letters are placed on the paths in alphabetical order and correspond
to the three elements (mothers), seven planets (doubles) and twelve astrological symbols
(simples). Seven of the sephira also have planetary attributions. The fact that Chesed is 4
and it's planetary attribute (Jupiter) has a symbol much like a four shows how old these
attributions probably are.
The tree of life represents creation, one way to look at it is that Kether is the single
manifest point. Chokmah is two points, now self awareness can occur as each point can
regard the other point and a single dimension exists. Binah creates the plane, a two
dimensional surface like the surace of a completely calm ocean. We cross the abyss into
the creation of three dimensional matter with Chesed, four points can form a 3-d object,
three points cannot. Geburah finally gives us the dimension remaining, in order for life to
exist time must flow, ever severe in it's journey. A fifth dimension gives us humanity,
the dimension of good and evil.
"Ten Sefirot out of nothing according to the number of the ten digits
[fingers and toes], which are five against five and a single covenant to be
determined in the center. In word and tongue and mouth, they are ten extending
beyond limit: depth of beginning, depth of end, depth of good, depth of evil,
depth above and depth below, depth of east and depth of west, depth of north
and depth of south, and the sole Master and lofty King faithfully governs them
all from his Holy dwelling in Eternity forever."
The Hebrew paths differ from the more modern versions, for a start they place the three mother
letters on the three horizontal lines, the seven doubles on the seven vertical lines and the
twelve simple letters on the remaining diagonal lines. I suspect that to a great extent it
doesn't matter which letter is placed in which path, the journey can still be made.
The attribution of the planets to the seven double letters is greatly argued, here I have
followed half of one way of doing it, half of another and stuck the Sun where the Golden Dawn
put it so as to have the planets match up to the Sephirotic planetary attributions.
Of the mother letters Shin is fire and formed heaven, Mem is water and formed
the Earth, Aleph is air and lies between them.
